Holiday Gifts for In-Laws
Every year my husband and I struggle with gifts for his parents. They’re well off and if they want something, they buy it. Hobbies are fairly limited. The main issue is that they rarely use the things we do buy them. Expensive weekend getaway to a resort two hours away – took them 6 years to use. A gift card to a restaurant the next town over they’ve never been to – they haven’t used it yet 4 years later. Commemorative portrait of deceased family dog – in a closet on the floor. Just last week we saw my FIL’s gift from last year sitting in the mud room unopened. I totally get that people cannot be forced to use things they’re gifted but I also can’t help being annoyed that we go through so much stress and money (things are a bit tight for us) just to have our gifts sit. We’ve done coffee subscriptions and family portraits in the past. Handmade local goods. Nothing gets used or displayed. I guess I’m asking for any advice or even gift ideas of things you’ve purchased for in-laws or parents? Or just tell me to stop being so sensitive lol. Any input is appreciated!! Thank you!

Why is it that every holiday season, we have the same struggle shopping for in-laws? I know it’s not just me. Next to gifts for men, this is always one of my most-requested gift guides. Grandparents are a little easier because you can weave the kids in with a nice picture frame and photo, but do you really want to do the same thing year-after-year? I’m including a lot of what I included last year because these gifts really do withstand the test of time. But I’ve added a few new gifts, too.
